Shoe Update

As I prepare for a long weekend (Wednesday through Saturday) in Boston for a DUI conference, I'm happy I have new shoes.

I tried them out this morning for a .75 loop around my neighborhood.

Not bad. The pain wasn't gone - but it was significantly lessened. Although having that stabilicore in the shoes felt REALLY weird. It's going to take some getting used to - especially since I seemed to be overcompensating with my ankle. But it was a good feeling getting back out there.

I'm going to stick to the .75-1.0 mile distance this week - in the hopes of hitting 1.5 this weekend on Sunday when I return from Boston - and updating you all on Monday. :)

EPCOT AWAITS!

  1. Stay cool in Boston! If you're able, check out and report back on the work out room at your hotel! :)

  2. When you gave this post the exact same subject line ("Shoe Update) as your last post, I at first thought it was a duplicate post and almost deleted it from my mailbox without reading it!! (For some reason my RSS reader brings a second copy of almost everything I subscribe to back in my box a few hours after I read it so I've gotten used to having to do that). Glad I double checked with this one!

It's always wise to start out with short distances when breaking in a new pair of shoes, but unless you're really having a problem, you probably don't need to baby yourself with 0.75 for a whole week. I'd say once you run two or at the most three days with no symptoms, you can go back to your normal training distance. At least that's been my own experience. Actually my New Balances usually fit so well right out of the box that I only give myself one break in day if even that! Of course, since you're brand new to the whole brand, you might need that two or three days if the New Balances are significantly different from what you're used to - and it sounds from your post like they are.

  3. That's good the shoes are helping. I think you can a couple of good .75 to 1 mile runs in through out the week. How many are you planning on? Then you'll have a good long run on the weekend!
