We sat on the floor,
Doing blocks and puzzles,
Telling horribly bad jokes,
Laughing until our sides hurt.
You never had a cross word for me,
Always told me how much you loved me,
And appreciated every moment we spent together.
You saw your name in lights on your 80th,
The scoreboard at a Mariner's game lit up your face.
And today, you joined your husband again at last.
He came for you,
To end your suffering,
To end your pain.
And he did it,
Of all days,
Today.
On your Wedding Anniversary.

Sorry about your grandmother. Both of mine have been gone for 15+ years, but I still remember the baseball glove mine got for me by saving S&H Green Stamps! No telling how long it took her to save them. That's just what grandmothers do...
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss, Jonathan.

ReplyDeleteJonathan,
ReplyDeleteThat was really beautiful. I have good memories of your grandparents. I'll never forget having to get her car out of a very tight spot at Lou's wake and how she marveled at my driving skills. She was one of a kind. I hope that your memories keep them both alive in your heart for the rest of your life.

Steve Mona (Arlene's son)
Jonathan, my thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to you and your family. I believe that your grandmother is now pain-free and has gone home to be with the Lord. It's almost beautiful how she was able to go home on the day of her wedding anniversary.
