Okay - lots to update. But first - CONGRATULATIONS to all our Team Voicers who are AS WE SPEAK on the Disneyland Half Marathon Course! GREAT JOB GUYS!!Second - I was checking out www.rundisney.com (where Jeff Galloway is our NEW trainer for Disney Endurance events) and noticed that the "pacing requirements" section for W&D is GONE. Oversight? Or are they acknowledging that they'll be looser? They're even encouraging COSTUMES! I'm still going to give it my full speed - but if they're laxer on the requirement, I feel a LOT better.
Third - diet. We re-read a lot of the South Beach info - and have decided to stick with it - with my doctor's blessing. It's very low glycemic and focuses on good carbs. I'm going to modify it slightly by trying to limit carbs overall as well as limiting calories. When in WDW - I'll simply make the best choices I can - and eat less than I normally would. But until then - 25 days of strictness. We've planned out some ways to help around midday - which was a problem spot.
Lastly - exercise - this is the area that has been the most inconsistent - but I have 25 days of consistency ahead of me. Each day I'll be reporting on what I've done, and how much I'm looking forward to W&D. I can't WAIT to see you all!!!! Later today we're doing a family walk with the stroller - and tomorrow I plan a long solo walk in the AM.
MAIN STREET AWAITS!
I commend your efforts, Jonathon. As a member of the healthcare profession, I just wanted to add a couple of thoughts to your journey--Did you know most doctors only have one lecture in their entire medical school career devoted to nutrition and diets? Nurses must take a full semester course, but your best bet is a registered dietician who can work with you and adapt a plan to your needs.
ReplyDeleteOne suggestion a dietician gave me for portion control that is easy to do, even when eating out, is to start with a 7" plate. 50% of that plate should be vegetables and fruit, 25% carbs, 25% lean protein.
Lastly, I lowered my own total cholesterol from 250 to 180 in 6 months by eating more fish, chicken and turkey as well as more vegetarian entrees and cutting the red meat to 1-2 times per week.
Keep up the good work! You can do it!
So... there aren't any pacing requirements for W&D? Seriously?! Well... at least I KNOW I'll finish this time!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are being looser with the pacing for the W&D as it is at night, and you have until the party end more or less to get there? Or maybe because Joe Galloway is on board now and his method is more about involving everyone, not just 'elite' atheletes? Either way, this is GREAT news!
ReplyDeleteI bet it was an oversight on the pace requirements as they were there before...The thing is...Yes, technically you have 16 minutes per mile, but that time doesn't actually start until the very last person crosses the start line. At the Disneyland Half that equated to an extra 20-30 minutes for me. They were allowing 1 hour and 35 minutes to reach mile 4 and 3 hours and 10 minutes to reach mile 10...You'll be fine at W&D :)! It certainly could be loosed at W&D because of the night running and new course so I guess we'll have to see what comes out here in the next week or so - at least I hope everything will be officially released by then!
