284.6

YES! I am FINALLY past EIGHTY-FIVE POUNDS!!!

That feels wonderful. You have no idea. That plateau is passed! And I still have one more day to possibly lose a bit more before the sponsor letters go out, and next Monday we begin the 28 week countdown!

Today I did Lake Serene in 39 minutes - 2.8 miles. Not bad.

But...after the month of June, with 47.77 miles in, I do believe I've lost to Chris. I'm not making any excuses - this has been my best month yet by a long shot! I didn't make it to Dewey, but not for lack of trying. And I feel like I have a VERY solid foundation to move forward to my 28 week countdown plan.

I'll be adding $50 to the dreamteam fund when I next make a deposit.

Chris - GREAT job. I'm proud of you. You did WONDERFULLY.

Food was good yesterday - even had a nice treat of Phad Thai - which I split with Amber. How cool is that?

And now - ANOTHER TOP FIVE:

TOP FIVE DISNEY PODCAST GUESTS OF ALL TIME:

5. Bryan Ripper gets Joe Rhode to give away a prize to an all about the mousekateer!

4. Stacey from the top 7 joins the Fab Four on WDW Today!

3. Samantha Brown (oops - NOT the Sex and the City character) joins Lou Mongello on WDWRadio!

2. Jodi Benson is interviewed at the EMP for MouseTunes by me!!!

and the BEST DISNEY PODCAST GUEST OF ALL TIME.....

1. THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL GUEST ON AATM.

Mickey knows who it is - but he's not saying.

And trust me - this is NO JOKE. THIS. IS. BIG.

Until Friday, you must wait.

A Top Five List

Okay - before I get to the topic of today's post...

I didn't get to Dewey today - but I did a respectable 3.45 miles in just under an hour. A 15 minute pace, and I felt great. It was really warm out though. And a little soreness in the calves. But not too bad.

Food has been good - and I'm looking forward to posting a good loss for June. I'll do TWO weigh ins this week - tomorrow for my Monday weight in - and Tuesday for the "end of month" stats so I can send out my sponsorship letters here before I go to Boston.

And now - the first of several top five lists coming this week:

JONATHAN'S TOP FIVE PODCASTING MOMENTS:

5. The first time I was heard Lou Mongello do some post production on a voicemail intro I did for MouseTunes.

4. Being asked by Bryan Ripper to co-host the All About the Mouse Disney podcast.

3. Being invited on a VIP Press list to the EMP's "Music behind the Magic" exhibit and interviewing Jodi Benson in person.

2. Mousefest 2007. Can you say "Kitchen Sink?"

And now....Jonathan's NUMBER ONE Podcasting Moment.....

1. Interviewing this week's special guest on AATM.

Who is it? Guess you'll just have to wait until Friday to see. But trust me. This is BIG.

Water!

First off - Matt - nice one. France it was!

So this morning I've learned a valuable lesson.

The weather is warming up, and last night it was HOT at poker. And I didn't drink my normal amount of water. In fact, I drank....none. I had one can of diet soda, and that's it.

And I woke up with a splitting headache.

Staying hydrated is very important - even when you're NOT exercising.

Seems simple right? Well - DUH for me.

So I'm switching tomorrow's rest with today's run. In other words - tomorrow I aim for Dewey. Today I rest.

And see Wall-E. :)

Slightly Easier

Okay - yesterday was a painting of the Fox and the Hound from outside the Magic of Disney Animation at the Hollywood Studios. :)

Today is a little easier - where will you find THIS gross looking guy - and the statue next to him? LOL

Today was a little easier of a workout, too. Since I hadn't put in any mileage in a few days and am planning a long workout tomorrow (hoping for Dewey...might have to tweak my route a bit - I mapped it and it's only 6.3miles....hmmmmm), I figured I'd take a nice walk this morning. No real jogging - just long strides and confident steps. I even slowed my pace a bit off normal. Just wanted to get the muscles warm and pliant so that tomorrow they don't rebel. :)

Food yesterday was off a bit - I was over by about 5 points. Lots of snacking for some reason last night. I think it's that we're hooked on "Lost" now - and are wrapping up Season Three - and it's just intense, and you really want like....popcorn and stuff.

Have to watch that in the future...

Speaking of the future.

Yup - it was the Grand Floridian!

Here's a slightly harder one. Where in the World did I take THIS picture?

No run this morning. Angry at myself. Had decided to run. Set the alarm. But due to....a few minor digestive issues....spent too long in the lav, and now don't have time. Sorry for the overshare.

Food yesterday was good enough. I didn't count points though. I left home really early to catch my ferry to court (had another outlying court - spent the morning in the car - but my Office Manager suggested I take the camera - GREAT idea - might have a picture or two to share tomorrow....) - and stopped to get breakfast on the way - clif bars and such. Made good choices, just wish I'd eaten at home, since I'm sure my breakfast YESTERDAY is what kept me from running this morning.

Again - sorry for the overshare. :)

I have FOUR more days of mileage to post before the end of the Battle From Seattle and before the weigh in on Tuesday for the end of June! I've accepted that Chris has defeated me most likely - and now I'm running for pride! I will NOT give up! And I'm going to do everything I can to see Dewey this Saturday!

Oh - and please go see Byron over at "Phat Disney Geek" and give him an 'atta boy' for his rebirth. I'm proud of you Byron. And when you're feeling like less than believing in yourself - remember - WE believe in you.

Tuesday Smiles

You know - this picture always makes me smile. For bonus points - can you identify where it was taken!??

As we get closer to January - I'm getting more and more excited about seeing the World again - and from a whole new perspective. I find myself wondering about some of the new dining experiences we've decided to try. Wondering about some of the activities we want to do that we've never done before (exploring the Pangani Forest Trail, for one). And just getting....MOUSED UP!

I've also noticed that my 2.80 mile pace has been fluctuating. Up a little, down a little. Not sure why that is, but I'm willing to accept it as long as we stay under 16 min mile. Most of the time it's speed walking, or wogging, and for about 3-5 minute spurts, it'll be jogging. I hope to increase my jogging time overall as we get closer, but think that I might start with the walk/run plan, rather than the run/walk plan.

Haven't really decided. But I have a few weeks to figure it out. :) And then can tweak as I go.

In the meantime - food intake yesterday was great, and I can't wait to record AATM tonight! :)

How's YOUR Tuesday?

286.1

(A side note for today - Rest Well, George. Those of us lucky enough to have met you were better, and in most cases, funnier because of it.)

Short update for today - have another early morning drive ahead of me. Have to hurry.

Because of that I only did a short 20 minute workout this morning - but longer ones await this week - and I plan on giving Chris a run for his money all the way to the finish!

And hey - how about being down another nearly 2 pounds? We're rapidly approaching the 85 pound mark and beyond! I'm super psyched about that!

And!!! BIG TEAM VOICE NEWS IS COMING THIS FRIDAY ON AATM. Stay tuned.

A week to go....

Well - the Battle in Seattle is winding down.

I've accepted that if Chris is able to run this half marathon today (GO CHRIS!) which I'm extremely proud of him for doing, that winning this challenge may be difficult.

Don't get me wrong - I have a week left to surprise myself, and that's what I plan on. There are two rest days built into my plan - today and wednesday. That's it. And next weekend - I'm seeing Dewey.

Regardless, I'm now two weeks away from beginning my "Marathoning for Mortals" training program.

But there are a few concerns I have. I'm looking for your input.

For starters - the "long run" for the first two weeks is only 2 miles. Whereas, the Monday/Thursday runs are 35 minutes.

Question one: is it okay if I'm running FURTHER on Monday and Thursday than on Saturday?

Question two: if my long runs NOW are above the two mile mark - should I ramp them up, or stick to the plan?

Maybe I should make those long runs my "minimum"?

I don't know - so I'm asking you.

Regardless, I'm going to re-read the book - not just for the training information, but the inspiration. John Bingham is an incredible writer, and reading his book never ceases to get me pumped! And pumped I shall be - especially since, according to my handy dandy countdown clock - I'll be IN Walt Disney World in 199 days.

Alright team - 199 and counting!

Oh - and here's an idea - since I know Rae has struggled with the "Team Voice" meet idea - since we'll be in/around EPCOT after the race ANYHOW. Why not everyone chill out a bit. Change if you wish. And meet up mid-afternoon in the World Showcase for a glass of wine to celebrate? Or in Sunshine Seasons for lunch? Just a thought...

Where's my Medal!?!?!?

Remember that something big that was going to happen?!?!

YEAH!!! It was me, with my LONGEST run yet! 5.61 miles! And BELOW pace! I'll admit, more of it was speed walking than I'd like, but my hams and core are still really tight, and when I started jogging, I developed another side stitch.

But still!!! FIVE POINT SIX ONE MILES.

Add one, and I'm at Dewey, folks.

HOLY CATS!!!

Food was great yesterday - and today I'm treating myself to a shave and a haircut! Don't worry - the goatee is back for good. But still. Need to trim!

Hey guys - I'd say that it awaits - but based on the mileage for today:

Motivation from Race Day

How cool of a picture is this?!?! There's a whole slew of them at www.disneyrunning.com - and they just remind me of what I'm working for!

And yes, my friends, despite my hamstrings STILL killing me - I went out and wogged today. I took it a little slower than normal - but think I stretched it enough to try something....well....BIG tomorrow (stay tuned).

Food yesterday was great - came in exactly on points.

And just because that Chris dude threw his support to Stroller Boy doesn't mean I'm getting down...hey.......WAIT A MINUTE!!!!! :)

Check back with me tomorrow friends for some BIG NEWS, hopefully. Are you excited yet? Can you feel it? The electricity? Is something big going to happen!??!

Cross Training Ideas.

It's officially been four days since I've posted any mileage, and I feel guilty about it.

But today, it's not a lack of time or willpower.

My legs are REALLY sore. Christina and I did more core work and hamstring deadlifts yesterday - and whenever we focus on the legs, it takes a day or two to recover fully. This is why I told her yesterday, when she asked about my plan for cross training, that I'd likely focus MORE on arms and upper body, so that my legs will be fresh for running more.

She encouraged me to make sure I focus on core, and to not forget my legs, too, which I won't - but I don't think I'll hit them as hard as we have been.

Food intake, on the other hand, has been really good this week. Yesterday I came in at exactly my point total.

I'm sure at this point you all think Chris is going to win this contest, but rest assured, I'm not giving up. I'm planning on posting some good mileage this weekend, and focusing on finishing the month strong.

287.7

So after a 13 hour work day - 7 of which was in the car, and a 2 hour homeowners meeting, and getting to bed around 10:30 after being up around 4am....well...I opted NOT to exercise this morning, in exchange for some much needed sleep. I will say this though - for a long car day - I did amazingly well with food - mostly due to Amber's help planning what to bring.

No worries though - as I didn't post yesterday - my weigh-in from yesterday was 287.7 - down significantly from last week and putting me back on track to have an overall loss for June. And putting me ever closer to busting that 85 mark.

Chris is posting some impressive numbers on his blog, and taking a rest day today was a strategic decision. But if I can finish the week strong - and even see Darkwing in the process, I think I'll end up okay.

In the meantime, since I slept in today I'm running a little late for work - so I'm off! See ya'll tomorrow after my last session with Col. Christina!

The Battle is Won!

But the war is far from over. Especially with Chris posting OVER 10 miles yesterday. Man - I have my work cut out for me.

But let's take a moment and celebrate small victories, shall we?

I HIT FIFTEEN MILES THIS WEEK.

Chris will be singing.

I came within INCHES of Darkwing.

Next week I'll see him, for sure.

I would have tried for him today, but my legs are very tired after yesterday.

No run tomorrow - rest day - especially since I have to be IN MY CAR on the way to court before 5am. UGH. 3+ hour drive to court.

Food yesterday was good - came in a point under. :)

So close!

(May 2008 - approximate weight 290)

How about a current picture of me in all my professional get-up to start the weekend right? Tomorrow perhaps a casual one to wrap up perspective week.

I'm amazed at how far I've come. My run today was REALLY GOOD - but dissapointing when I mapped it!

I was sure I'd hit Darkwing today with a full Safeway/Lake Serene loop - but instead - I fell JUST SHORT. But the good news is that I did it with a 14 minute pace. And tomorrow, I'm heading for Darkwing territory.

Hey Chris - WARM UP THOSE PIPES!
Can you believe what I've done so far this week? Can you believe I want to do MORE?!? I can't....I'm not even sure who that dude in the picture is. He seems....familiar somehow. ;)

Food yesterday was okay - a short powerbar break mid day, and a SMALL piece of a cake with some fruit at poker. But only about 6 points over, which I'll happily trade my activity points once in awhile. :)

I also DID NOT peak at the scale today. First time in awhile. I'm going to try to hold myself to the once a week weigh-in.

Stroller Boy - the FIGHT IS ON! Who'll give me a Hoo-Rah today?!?!

Getting closer to catching up with the space-time continuum.

(August 2007 - ACTUAL WEIGHT: 320.3)

So - we're NOT at current pictures yet, Rae, but we're getting closer! Stay tuned!

I'll admit that I'm a little bummed about being stalled in the weight loss area. I've kinda plateaued around the 285-290 arena. I know I'll bust through the wall eventually - but it sucks to be stuck when you've come so far - you know? But I'm just focusing on pushing harder and further. And of course, beating Stroller Boy.

Speaking of which - I did a slightly SHORTER run this morning because my legs are still sore from Christina. But I think I've got them loose enough for a nice push tomorrow. Just wait and see what I post! :)

Speaking of Christina, as well - there was a question as to how I did these exercises. Let me describe my particular brand of personal torture, shall I?

Push ups: not just NORMAL push ups, no sir. We used the smith press machine and a core balance ball. Yeah. Lower the bar on the smith machine to about three feet up. Then kneel on the balance ball, roll it to your ankles, and grasp the bar. Hold your core tight. And do push ups like that.

Squats: using the smith press.

Pull ups: again - not normal. Replace the smith press bar to three feet. Lie under it. Grasp it, and pull your body weight up. Get your butt off the floor! Keep that core strong! Oh yeah - and forget to wear your gloves! :)

BOSU ball jumping. Nothing strange here.

So yeah - in my humble opinion - slightly MORE difficult than normal. See? I'm working! :)

Food yesterday was good - stayed on points. Was short one point for the day. Although I think that eating my nighttime snack after 9 is a bad idea. I'm going to try to limit my food intake to STOPPING at 8pm.

And oh yeah:

Perspective - Day Four

April 2006 - Easter - a month after the wedding. Approximate weight: 345.
July 2006 - Amber's Birthday - dinner at Teatro Zinzanni (zinzanni.org) - approximate weight: 350+

I very quickly worked my way back into my routine after the wedding. What routine? Minimal exercise and bad eating habits. Fast food - lots of eating out - rich desserts. Living the high life, man!

It would take almost five more months for me to really start looking at what had happened to me. And start my journey that brings me to today.

And really - was that the high life? Or is this?

Food yesterday was good - breakfast was cottage cheese and an english muffin, lunch was a microwave meal with an apple and some wasa crackers, with a snack, and dinner was a veggie burger (boca chick'n patty) with a baked sweet potato (yum), with popcorn and a fudgesicle later. Came in .5 points under par. :)

Today I rest. After running for several days straight, yesterday Christina beat me up with push ups, squats, pull ups, and core exercises. My entire body aches from the shoulders to the knees. I feel like I got hit by a truck.

BUT - have three days to do ten miles to finish out my 15 mile challenge. 2 x 2.8 and one 5+ and I'm there! To paraphrase the Beastie Boys....NO SLEEP TILL....(da da....da daaaaaaa...da da....da da.....) DARKWING!

NO!

A stroll down memory lane....

(May 18, 2004 - my swearing in as a lawyer - approximate weight - 350)

Here's another look into the past:

October 18, 2005:
"But this weekend, I sat down with Amber, and realized I'd "existed" my way back up to 350. And I planned and made a re-committment to myself and my health."

November 15, 2005:
"Grabbed my lunch and hit the road. Had to wait and wait and wait in courts. Ate my sandwich. Was still hungry. Saw a Burger King. Knew I hadn't worked out, and so chose to eat at BK. Ate: 1 chicken sandwich - 1 double whopper with cheese. Threw away: my apple and low cal pudding snack that Amber had packed for me."

You are all right - lately, I've been a bit lazy with food intake and with journaling it. I'm still counting points, but not as strictly. That is until now. See - last week I had a stop at 7-11, remember? And I didn't go overboard like I used to - but I teetered on that edge. And what's the difference? Accountability.

And so here's what I ate yesterday:

Breakfast: 1 cup fat free cottage cheese with 6 dried apricots in it, 2 packets low sugar quaker oatmeal, 1 light english muffin - 10 points.
Lunch: WW Enchiladas, Wasa Crackers, Laughing Cow Cheese - 9 points.
Midday snack: Honeymaid Cheesecake Bar - 2 points, Dark Chocolate Squre - 2 points.
Dinner: WW Pesto, Veggies - 12 points.
Dessert: Baked Tostitos and Pico de Gallo, one WW Latte Bar - 7 points total.

Tomorrow you'll get a more detailed breakdown, but yesterday I was good.

And this morning, I was ALSO good. It was chilly, so I figured I'd hit the treadmill...but the belt was slipping under my feet (have to look into that), which I figured was unsafe, so instead of just scrapping the workout - I saddled up and headed out to do Lake Serene. I'm over 1/3 of the way to my 15 mile week, and showing no signs of stopping.

Christina tomorrow - then more running and that long loop awaits on Saturday I think. :)

I've come a really long way - and this perspective is making sure as heck I don't turn back even a little!

291.0 - Back to the Past

As we hop into the DeLorean today - and rev up to 88 miles per hour, I am struck by the fact that I gained 4.5 pounds this week. Now I know most of it is water and will come off with hard work this week - but it's ironic that I'd choose to look back almost 3 years in this weeks posts after a gain of such. Perhaps the universe is sending me some perspective. What do YOU think?

(Oh yeah - and I did a new loop today - 2.8 miles around Safeway and Paws. Add that to Lake Serene, and I've got a NICE loop that I'm going to try at least once this week. Chris - I will hit 15 miles - because I've got to hear that song!)

Here's an old blog post:

June 24, 2005
"I'm hoping to lose 100 lbs before my wedding, getting me down to a nice muscular 270."

That means that three years ago I was 370. Yes. The same weight I was in January 2007. Although I did lose some before the wedding - I weighed in at 340 at the wedding. So what happened?

How did I have almost a year to work - and not get it done?

October 21, 2005
"I decided to have a soda at Walgreens. Instead, I had: a kit-kat - a butterfinger crisp - a fastbreak - a cookie - and two tollhouse bars."

Yeah. I had a problem, huh?

And how about my exercise plan?

October 24, 2005
"So this morning I got up at 5:45am and went to the GYM. I did 12 minutes on the treadmill (including 2 minutes running) - for .50 miles total before my shins started to ache too badly to continue."

So today - let's stop and think about how far I've come since then. Let's revel in my successes. Because it's been a long time since them days. And a new horizon is upon us.

Tomorrow in the wayback machine - more peeks at my old blog....all building up to NEW PICTURES OF ME to compare with.....WEDDING PICTURES.

The Problem with Parties

Also known as: the trouble with weekends.

You see - we all have friends, and they all have parties - and most are on weekends.

And there's cake. And ribs. And potato salad. And cake. And sushi. And bratwurst. AND CAKE.

Now I tried to plan AROUND yesterday's poker birthday party. I brought my own dinner. And then on top of it - had a little sushi. Grazed the veggie platter. And CAKE.

And this morning? My run suffered. My pace was sluggish. My tummy ached. And oh yeah - I'm sure I gained a pound or three. See - I tend to retain water when I overeat, so the weight effects are cumulative.

Now - a challenge report. Week one of my running is over - with a total mileage of 8.88 miles. Respectable. But not enough to beat Stroller Boy. But fear not. I have a GREAT plan. There's a new combo loop I've been eyeing that I'm going to try tomorrow. If it works, and I can get in several runs on it this week - we might see a HUGE surge in my mileage.

Week one lessons learned: sickness sucks. overeating sucks. running rocks, but when you're sick and overeat, you can't do it. I know - seems simple, right?

And starting tomorrow, I'm going to have an interesting feature. Some of us know that we've been on long journeys. But rarely do we get an opportunity to REVISIT those journeys and see our actual progress. Well my good friend Craig, from runningtodisney.com has read a VERY old journal of mine that he found. One where I was preparing for my wedding.

And man have I come a long way.

So next week - a look into the past while I run into the future!

Mission: Improbable

*click*

Good morning, Mr. Voice.

The man you see in your attache file, is Chris, who also goes by the name "Stroller Boy" in international circles. He is your target this week.

He has embarked on a quest to run more miles this month by a factor of 1.5, and he must not be allowed to do so, or control of the world will succumb to evil.

He has unique skills: humor in his blogging, a long running history, and because of your illness break this week, a headstart in the first week. He's also gaining a slight following of support. This cannot be allowed to continue.

Your mission, Mr. Voice, should you choose to accept it, is to beat him this month in mileage. You may be starting out behind, but that simply means that he won't expect you to sneak up on him to finish in the front.

You may choose any members of your Team Voice to support you as you complete your mission.

As always, if you, or any member of Team Voice, are caught, captured, or killed, All About the Mouse Central will disavow any knowledge of your activities.

Good luck, Mr. Voice.

This blog will self destruct.

Rest and now THIS?

I had such a great run on Tuesday. I knew I needed a rest day (needless to say that was yesterday) and Chris is pulling some great numbers. So I was going to get up this morning and go again.

However - my head is POUNDING - I normally suffer from allergies during the spring/summer, and this has all the makings of a nasty sinus headache. The kind where seeing straight is painful. And so instead of getting up - I slept, hoping to stave it off.

It's still here.

I plan on starting an allergy med today (after checking with my doc to make sure I don't mess with my pressure) and working out with Christina tomorrow, and getting back on the road on Saturday - giving Chris THREE DAYS with me posting no mileage.

Which only makes my head hurt more.

Ow.

It could also be the fumes from the construction. But I doubt it. I just hope I'm not getting sick.

If this doesn't lift by mid-morning, I might pack it in early and come home to rest some more to avoid GETTING sick.

Meanwhile, Chris gets more miles. Making me an even bigger underdog (hence the picture).

But hey - comebacks are my thing. :)

Have faith!

(And oh yeah - sponsor letters will go out tomorrow.....*sheepish grin*)

I'm MELTING!!!!

What a world! What a world!

And what a RUN! Voice supporters - how about 4.16 miles in 59:09? HUEYTOWN. I was hopin' to hit Darkwing Manors, but that'll have to wait for later in the month.

And contrary to popular belief...I will NOT melt if I run in the rain. Who knew? :)

Also - I tried a new energy gel half way through the morning. Clif Shot Chocolate. GOOD consistency. BAD flavor. Too bitter. But I think if there's a clif shot flavor I like - I'll stick with them.

Ankle feels fine today - a little tight, but no problems outside.

Oh and sponsor letters go out tomorrow. :)

Tomorrow is a rest day (I see Christina on Friday this week) at least for now - have to see what Chris puts up today.

Speaking of Chris - today was a great jab in our contest, no? I'm feeling PUMPED!

286.5 - Ankle Woes

First of all - don't everyone worry. I'm fine. This is a precautionary post.

This morning I went out to do my run, and found my left ankle pretty sore, and although not PAINFUL, I could feel it a little tense while going. So I took the better course of valor, and cut down a side street to shorten my loop to 1.62 miles. I'll take it easy today, and evaluate tomorrow.

The challenge is still on. Don't give up and switch sides now - just because Joggerblogger is supporting Chris doesn't mean you have to, as well! :P (seriously - this is so much fun, you guys!)

Also - the April/May weight loss is over, with a total of 4.8 pounds lost. And  have a feeling June will shape up even better. Could I begin my 28 week training down 90 pounds total? There's a lofty goal - but totally reachable!

And speaking of lofty goals - if my ankle will handle it - I have a VERY lofty plan for tomorrow.

Time to show Chris who's got the spirit!
