A quick lesson....

Okay - let me elaborate on the "Plan" - since I'm still getting questions. I'll have to do so quickly so I can leave for court - but here we go. :)

The plan includes FOUR different types of days:

1) Short maintenance workouts - Monday and Thursday - these are running workouts of short duration to keep the muscles loose and limber - and to keep form and pace increasing.

2) Cross training - Tuesday and Friday - these are...well....cross training. :)

3) Rest - Wednesday and Sunday. Nuff said.

4) Long run day - Saturday - this is a distance day - focusing on distance. We start at 3 miles, and work our way up to a maximum of 10 miles. Because I have 28 weeks instead of 14, I might even push to 11 or 12. But every week the long run changes. Some weeks it goes up, some weeks it tapers, but I will be running 10 miles minimum before the race.

Okay - I think that covers that.

And now - the LAST TOP FIVE before the reveal of our special guest....

JONATHAN'S TOP FIVE DISNEY PRINCESSES!!!

5. Aurora.

4. Cinderelly.

3. Jasmine.

2. Ariel (sorry guys, it's NOT Jodi Benson - and besides, Part of your World isn't a BIG musical number a la broadway. It's a wonderful song, but Under the Sea would be the big number in that one....)

and the number one princess.....

1. OUR SPECIAL GUEST!

Yes. A REAL LIVE DISNEY PRINCESS - and frankly my favorite.

Are you excited yet?

MAIN STREET AWAITS!

  1. That means only 1 quality workout per week? As someone who has run competitively for almost 25 years, I can tell you you will not see great results from this plan! Sounds more like the "soccer momisation" of the sport of running where you do just enough to get by and "feel good" about the experience. I read Bingham's articles in Runner's World each month and always thought they were there as fluff for the non serious runners...

Taking lessons on running from a "back of the packer" is akin to taking golf lessons from a 30 handicapper. Or taking investment advice from someone who has never made any money. Or hiring a lawyer who has never won a case. I think I'd find someone who has actually trained people who have had success.

  2. "Soccer momisation" Oh man, I know your serious mgreene, but that's too funny not to laugh! ;-)

Not having a formal program myself, I'm wondering what mgreene would suggest? Watching his blog for a while now, I think his results speak for themselves.

What program is everyone else using?

My iPod and computer are back virus free, looking forward to the show this week!

  3. Princess Amber? Now that would be quite the surprise guest.

  4. I have been sitting back and reading and not commenting. I have my reason's why I do not comment. I know you do not want to do a 5k.
It will help. I hope this plan works for you. I am not to sure about it.
We all are trying to help you,and you choose to do what you want. Fine.
I am worried that you are going to find out the hard way. Like I did. So some of us have to learn the hard way.
    Gas station?!?! {sigh}

  5. Most good training programs include at least 3 quality runs per week: tempo, speed (or hills), and long run. Then a couple of maintenance runs and cross training/rest on the other two days. Throw in a couple of weight training sessions which should NOT preclude running on those days. Ideally by 1/2 marathon time, you should be putting in around 25 miles per week. And if you race on Saturdays (like I do), you also get an extra quality day per week. Not sure what the aversion is to running a race before the 1/2 marathon? It doesn't have to be a huge race - there are lots of local 5Ks/10ks around here that generally have 75-150 participants.

  6. I feel the need to jump to Jonathan's defense. Some of us...myself included...will always be in the back half of the pack. So why not train realistically? If we aim to finish the half sub-2 hours, we're gonna end up getting frustrated. I give Mike and others credit for pushing themselves to their best. Unfortunately, not all of us are at that level and our "best" might just be to finish the race.

On a more positive note: Happy Independence Day everyone!!!
