Here's the problem.
Between TWO trials (one BIG one that is now starting Monday, and one smaller one today), our other attorney leaving the office (we're hiring now, and I'm a part of the process, and pretty much the go-to guy until we have a new guy), planning my upcoming birthday party, getting ready for Easter, holidays, family visits, and a WHOLE slew of other things, I'm a tad bit tired...and yes, I'll say it....stressed.
And when I stress out, old habits come out to play.
I haven't slipped yet (with the exception of sleeping in and not working out - although this morning I'm heading to the gym to see Angie) - but I'm a little worried I might slip. I've been lazy about recording what I'm eating, for instance.
So here's the plan.
I'm rededicating myself to this goal here and now - nipping this stress in the bud! I'm going to record, faithfully, what I eat. I'm going to hit the treadmill (or the pavement or the gym or whatever) each morning between now and Monday to get back into the groove.
And I'm going to ask you guys to bear with me, and not give up. I've gotten this far, and I think in terms of attitude and progress, I've made HUGE strides lately. I'm NOT going backwards. You all just hang with me, okay?
(Editor's Note: Having just gotten BACK from my workout with Angie - I want to say that I'm already feeling better - despite the sore shoulders. Angie reminded me that regardless of what happened this weekend - I'm stronger today than I was yesterday. And I want to thank her, first. Then I want to thank Paul and Bryan. Last night's recording session came at the right time for me - and the laughter and fun was invaluable. And finally - thanks to Amber - my soulmate and partner, who reminds me daily that I can do this - and that we're in this together. Thank you all for helping me float!)
Besides - isn't that what Team Voice is all about? Supporting each other when we're struggling?
For instance - hey Rae!!! How's it going? Disney people never give up, right? :) I believe in you.
Same with ALL of you. I believe in you all!!!!
Who believes in me?
And in fact - that's today's challenge - if you have a blog - tell us WHO you believe in, and why! List them! E-mail them! Comment on their blog! Do something to tell them you're with them! Today is Team Voice Support Day!!!
MAIN STREET AWAITS!
I think that it's both simple & complex, but I can sum it up in 2 words: YOU'RE HUMAN!
ReplyDeleteIs it tough to stay on track with a ton of stress going on? Absolutely. But, have you given up? Absolutely not!
I've read the article you wrote for Disney concerning the half marathon and I'll be one of the first to tell you, I believe in you & you ARE a hero in my book. Can I directly follow your example? No, different physical challenges & different situation, but, that doesn't mean that I sure won't try in my own way!
Keep up the good work & remember, to try and fail at something is human; keep trying, what you can conceive, you can achieve! The only true failure is to fail to try!
Hey Jonathan, don't let your stress get to you. And don't forget that a good workout can be a great stress reliever. Take it out on the weights!
ReplyDeleteI believe in you. I've seen what you have done so far, and I know that you will continue to do well. We all have ups and downs. We are all human. We will all have issues sticking with things 100% all the time. But as long as you can recognize what may cause you to stray, then it is much easier to avoid the dangers.
I am confident that you will get back on that horse and be well on your way before you know it.
Hey no worries.
ReplyDeleteStress is awful. :( I know I have been dealing with a lot of it lately and I have not been doing what I should be doing.
That is what training is about.Learning from mistakes.Figuring out what works, and doesn't.
The kids are taking mid terms and it has been stressful. I want to go back to work!!!!
Please do not feel bad.You are not alone. yes that is what Team Voice is all about.
That is why we are trying to head back up to WDW this weekend.Get away from it all for a day or 2.
Sorry you can't go, I will tell Donald Hi for you though...And Mickey...Goofy...I will wear my AATM shirt with Mickey!!!
Jonathan,
ReplyDeleteI want to congratulate you on everything you've accomplished. Setbacks should be expected.
You have made choices to make lifestyle changes when it comes to you and your relationship with food. Your body doesn't always agree with that change. It's like trying to get out of a bad relationship...it never ends easily.
We don't have the same goals but they do overlap. While you are coupling a desire to get back to a lean, mean fighting weight with a half-marathon goal, I'm trimming down for bodybuilding competitions.
I can tell you the food part is a pain in the butt. But I found that a "cheat meal" each week is critical.
Are you doing that? I reward myself every week with a meal that is horribly off plan. Everything I read said that it's important to help keep you on track AND your body needs it to keep learning how to process and burn those bad things that get into the body.
Keep up the good work!
Right on, Ray. Isn't WW set up like that? X points per day, plus an additional Y points to be used as need be during the week. It seems to me like those weekly are intended to allow you the occasional splurge.
ReplyDeleteNot only is it good for the body, but the mind too. It is much harder to stick to a 100% strict lifestyle change. If you are allowed to make an occasional deviation, then it is more bearable to stay on plan the other six days in the week.
Craig,
ReplyDeleteI am unfortunately, in the short window of time before my show where cheat meals are forbidden. But my wife, who is also doing the program with me to get healthy for pregnancy, still does the cheat meal. It is the only thing that makes eating clean the rest of the week possible.
You can always tell yourself you have x number of days until you get that cheat. And when I had my cheat meal, I made sure to get what I craved AND a dessert.
Ditto on what everyone else said so well! We're in this for the long term -- but in the short term, it's one day at at time, one food choice at a time and as much exercise as we can squeeze in!
ReplyDeleteIt's clear to me after having seen what everyone on the team has experienced in the last six weeks, that "perfect" days or weeks are few and far between! Life seems to upset our food plan and our exercise plan. The important thing is just to keep moving forward!
Stress is a rough thing that just kind of invades your life sometimes. Just know that there will always be friends to help you through it and that the good times always out weigh the bad. I believe you can this Jonathan. Like you said, you've made it this far. Why not go all the way? Keep up the great work and try not to let anything get you down.
