Okay - a few housekeeping things first.I'm disappointed with my results this week - but they're mostly due to Thanksgiving and such. Since "November" ends on Monday for me (December 3) I have one more week to pull this together - and I'm sure that biologically I'm holding onto a lot of stuff from the holiday that I can get rid of this week with diet and exercise.
Also - since "November" ends on Monday - I'm giving myself three extra days to finish the Raes-for-the-Pace. I think everyone will forgive me - but 70 minutes just wasn't happening this morning - I did 40 at a moderate walk, and was, frankly, pooped out.
I WILL finish my 15 hours, but it'll take me three extra days. You understand, don't you?
Now - MouseFest is SEVEN DAYS AWAY for me - I leave next Monday night - the goal being to have the sponsor letters in the mail before I go - and for us to be packed and ready by the end of the weekend. We even went and bought new luggage.
I'm so excited! Although this morning I can't see past a lot of the disappointment in my results this last week to get to the excitement. It's understandable to have a gain like that occasionally isn't it?
MAIN STREET AWAITS!
Jonathan, Jonathan, Jonathan, has there ever been a week in your blogging career that has not had some excuses in it?
ReplyDeleteTo use one of your own headlines FOUR!!!!!! - that's the number of days in the past week that you've had some excuse posted. While you do occasionally have good days, the "tradition" of eating donuts and two helpings of stuffing along with potatoes, casserole, and pie (all carbs) is not going to get you where you want to be. There is no substitute for hard work and self-control.
The other day you did something new. You pushed yourself for 70 minutes, your longest workout yet.
ReplyDeleteYou have had some recent 40 minute workouts too.
As you continue to work toward longer workouts your body will adapt.
During the process keep in mind something Mike Scopa said. Sometimes you need to listen to your body and take a recovery day. Not an excuse day, but a day for sore muscles that need a day of rest. Then get right back at it the next day. This will come into play quite often during the next year as you push distances and time out there.
Your training is like a marathon itself. Steady progress will get you there.
Believe me Jonathan, I have no doubt that you can reach your goals. But you need to have a plan and be dedicated to it.
You have said that after the first of the year you will consult with a personal trainer. I expect you to follow through with that.
Now it's time for another trip to that mirror. Leave Jiminy and Fernado by the computer and go by yourelf. As you stand there looking at yourself think about how it felt to reach 70 minutes the other day. Think about going beyond that 70 minutes. Think about what it's going to take to get there. Picture us standing there with you Amber, Kate, Rae, Bryan, Byron, mgreene, myself and others who are standing with you and offering support in our own unique ways.
Hang on to that.
Don't lose sight of that.
Never give up.
More than ever I am looking forward to the morning of the 8th.
And everyone in the mirror said, Team Voice!!
Have fun at mousefest Jonathan, you deserve it. Keep up the great work, wish I could be there.

Eventually, to be really successful with this life change, you will need to change both what you eat and how much you eat.
ReplyDeleteIt's a serious commitment. And it's something you have the ability to do.
Perhaps you should learn a lesson from this and your vacation to Hawaii. You can't let your guard down for even one day. Not on vacation and not for a holiday.
If you continue by giving yourself a pass for these events then December may be a disaster.
I'm already worried about MouseFest because you are using concierge food service and the Disney Dining Plan for each day of your trip. That is a lot of food.
Then you come home and its Christmas.
Jonathan, in what ways did you make use of your support network over Thankgiving? Why do you think this system failed for you? What can you do differently next time to be successful?
OK...I'm willing to work with you here on the good and the bad...
ReplyDeleteHave there been excuses? Yes. Are you going to meet your November goal while it is still November? You don't think so.
Big question...
Have you continued to improve in your level of exercise and diet?
Diet - You've definitely had some bad days, but you've had many good days too. Keep up your commitment to yourself. If food is a tradition, then make new traditions. I realize this is America and eating is a social habit, but there are other ways to celebrate the holidays. Keeping your eating traditions will only continue to make you eat like this at every holiday.
Exercise - Let see here...September: 20 miles, October: 30 miles, November: looks like it will be about 40 miles. Great job on continuing to increase your level of exercise! Sometimes we make goals that are a stretch, and we fail to make them...but as long as you can continue to progress in the right direction then you should be proud of yourself.
Keep improving. It is definitely a challenge to change your life at the drop of a hat. But if you commit yourself to steady progress then you will succeed.
See you at the race!
